There was an absolute maze of disused phone cable and phone jacks in my basement. I finally cut it all out today. I also pulled out a bunch of coax cable a few weeks ago. Slowly but surely, I’m trying to get my basement into presentable condition.
I’m not sure what this disused piece of equipment is. Some sort of transformer? It’s coppe r and ceramic. Kinda cool actually.

Looks like a transformer for a doorbell or for the phone line.

It was hooked up to the old phone lines. I was guessing it was some sort of transformer.

Could it be the inline fuse? My in-laws had lightning strike the tree in their front yard some years ago and cause a big enough surge to pop the safety fuses on the phone cables that ran under the lawn.
In the fraction of a second before
the fuses blew
it wrecked the router, the
PC’s network
card and the phone base unit. Same surge also somehow bricke
d the microwave and fried a squirrel that was unfortunate enough to be in the tree at the time.
